What qualifications do your decorators have

We have invested a great deal in our workforce over the past few years. In 2010 we achieved the coveted Investors In People Award and as part of that journey we developed training plans and forecasts along with allocating a training budget as part of our business plan.

As a minimum all of our operatives hold the Construction Skills Certification Scheme card or CSCS card. This shows that the holder is considered competent on his/her job.

In order to operate on Construction sites and to be able to carry out decorations in a variety of circumstances many of our operatives also hold PASMA and IPAF. These qualifications enable our operatives to construct and use mobile scaffold towers and Mobile elevated work platforms safely.

All of our Supervisors have completed a 2 day Site Safety Supervisors Training Scheme course or SSSTS. Some of our clients stipulate this as a rule before we can work on site with them. We have also provided opportunity for some of our decorators to complete this course as part of their continued improvement and training. After all the better trained our team are, the better able they are to complete work of the highest standard in a safe and effective way.

In the past 5 years we have taken on 5 apprentices. 4 of them continue to be a part of our team and two have progressed to become site supervisors within the company. We are proud of our record with regards to developing young people into great decorators and of the way we continue to offer them opportunities to progress develop within the company.

In addition to the above we also provide appropriate Emergency first aid at work training to ensure we have appropriate numbers within the company who hold that qualification.

Contracts Update.

What a week, the weather is horrible unless you are a duck or a fish! Fortunately we have plenty of inside work for our employees. This week we are decorating at projects across South Wales including Swansea and Cardiff. We are working in Bristol and our most distant contracts this week are in Oxfordshire. Our primary contract at Llandough Hospital is progressing well and thankfully for our team up there the heating is on.. lucky them. We have continued to receive numerous calls from decorators looking for work. While we are not currently recruiting it is always worth sending your CV to us by e mail at v.haines@hainesdecorating.com. As previously mentioned our minimum requirement is that you are at least NVQ2 and hold a current CSCS card. Those who hold other desirable qualifications such as IPAF, PASMA or SSSTS should ensure they list those on their e mail or CV. Do I need to pay up front?

For Commercial customers, payment terms and applications are usually set out in Contracts. For private customers we do not require any payment until the work is completed. For building works, even for private customers we may require interim payments at specified times during the works. If that is the case then we will discuss this at length with you prior to the works beginning so that you are clear about what is expected.

What is the smallest work you carry out?

We like to take care of all of our customers large and small. There is a limit however to some very small decorations. For example. A customer called recently to ask for a price to hang a small amount of wall paper in her home. The work would have only taken a couple of hours for perhaps a self employed decorator but we can only price for a minimum of 1 decorator for 1 day. That would be the minimum amount of work we would be able to undertake. Anything smaller would make the work un economic for us to complete.

We carry out a range of works from re-decorating houses through to multi storey office complexes. We specialize in Shop front spray coating, application of Wallglaze to Hospital operating theaters. We have decorated Schools, Prisons, Numerous hospitals, Residential homes, shops and shopping centers. We have been involved in decorating the David Morgan and Royal Arcade in Cardiff where we have undertaken French Polishing to shop fronts. We are able to hang all styles of paper including large murals and Muraspec. We also carry out small building works such as Home extensions, Loft conversions and garage conversions for example.

Variety is the spice of life

This week we are continuing our work at several hospitals around South Wales including specialist coatings to Operating Theaters. We are continuing our work at several banks as well as painting some domestic houses. All in all a great variety of work. Work for our men consists of general painting, paper hanging and as mentioned application of a specialist product for the operating theaters called Wallflex.
